Tips on how to get to the Bicycle Ball

EnviroCentre’s inaugural Bicycle Ball is coming up fast. But how do you get to it? What happens if you don’t cycle? Here are a few tips on how to make your ride low carbon no matter whether you bike or not!

We’re working hard to make the Bicycle Ball a truly low-carbon event, so we’re hoping everyone will jump on board with us and arrive by low carbon transportation. Here’s a quick guide to help you choose how to get there!

At EnviroCentre we care a lot about how people get around, and for good reason – almost a quarter of greenhouse gas pollution in Canada results from the way people and goods move around. Crazy, right?! That’s why we’re hoping you’ll ditch your car for the night and choose one of these options.

Tip 1: Walk!

If you live within walking distance from the Horticulture Building at Lansdowne Park you’ll be able to walk to the Bicycle Ball. All of the pathways leading to Lansdowne are fully accessible. Depending on how comfortable your shoes are, you might be able to even walk a little farther!

Did you know? Walking is the best possible way to get around – it’s completely free, is great for your health (one neuroscientist even calls it a superpower) and is completely carbon neutral.

Tip 2: Take Public Transit

OC Transpo transit to and from the Bicycle Ball is included in the price of your ticket to the Ball! Just print out your Bicycle Ball ticket and show it to the driver when you board the bus. Para Transpo is also included – book your trip as normal. Bus routes 6 and 7 will take you to and from Lansdowne Park, to check your route options go here.

Did you know? Every mile you travel using public transport will save around 1 pound of C02 from being emitted into the atmosphere.

Tip 3: Bike!

While there are many other ways to get to the Bicycle Ball, we won’t lie: biking is by far our favorite! We love biking because it is an environmentally friendly way to travel longer distances, but also because it is so much fun! And the good thing about the Horticulture Building is that it can be easily reached by bike from almost any part of town. Check out this cycling map to find the best route for you.

We’ll also be offering a bike valet parking service at the door, so you won’t have to worry about your ride while you party. But don’t forget to bring your lights for the ride home!

Did you know? EnviroCentre’s Bike to Work month has encouraged an estimated 5,000 new cycle commuters to ride their bikes to work!

Tip 4: Ride share

We get it, sometimes distances are too long or life simply gets in the way. You might be pressed for time, or have had a really tiring day. If you would rather come by car, you could consider sharing the ride to reduce the impact of your trip. We’ve partnered with Lyft to be able to offer you a free trip, we encourage you to take this option only if there are 2 or more of you.

We’ll be updating the process for getting your free Lyft soon. Come back to check before the Ball!

Don’t forget your tickets!

Last but not least, don’t forget to buy your tickets for the ball! We can’t wait to see you there!
