Ottawa, April 30, 2015 – EnviroCentre, an environmental non-profit organization offering practical services and programs that help individuals and organizations conserve energy, improve environmental health and act more sustainably, is happy to announce the appointment of two new Board Members to its Board of Directors.
EnviroCentre’s two new Board Members are:
- Alex Monk, Director of Research and Finance, Abacus Data, is a Chartered Professional Accountant and Certified Management Accountant. He is also co-founder of a local small business.
In his capacity at Abacus Data, he oversees the accounting function and works closely with not-for-profits and associations in developing and implementing strategic government relations advocacy initiatives. He has also co-authored a CSR report series aimed at helping organizations design and implement effective, value based CSR initiatives.
Alex is an avid cyclist with a passion for the promotion of green living and environmental sustainability.
- Michael van Aanhout, Chairman, Stratos Inc., is a professional engineer who has built Stratos into a leading strategy consulting firm over the past 15 years.
Michael is also active in the local Ottawa business and sustainability community, acting as Vice Chair of the Ottawa Chamber of Commerce Environment Committee, acting as an Ambassador for the Ottawa Centre Eco-District, supporting the Ottawa Sustainability Fund Advisory Committee, and providing strategic planning advice to the Ottawa River Keeper.
He was honoured to be a recipient of the 2015 Canada’s Clean50 Award.
“We are excited to welcome Alex Monk and Michael van Aanhout to our Board of Directors,” says Michael Murr, Executive Director of EnviroCentre. “As the need to reduce greenhouse gas emissions becomes ever more important, Board members with their wealth of experience will play a vital role in guiding EnviroCentre in its mission.”
Departing members are Tony Sroka and Phil Brown. Their dedication and contribution to the Board was invaluable:
- Tony Sroka was a part of the EnviroCentre Board since 2009 and served a number of roles, most recently Board Chair
Tony Sroka is a managing partner within CIMA+, and works as their Director of Urban Planning and Sustainable Development. He has over thirty years of senior professional urban planning and project management experience and is a member of numerous provincial, national and international planning associations.
- Phil Brown joined the Board in 2012 and was a member of the Finance Committee and Chair of the Facilities Committee.
He is President of Jackson-Brown Associates, a Registered Professional Planner, a licensed real estate salesperson, a general member of the Project Management Institute and has an extensive background in planning and development.
