Cooling Tips And Tricks: Fans

Keeping your home cool in the summer is always a challenge.

Now more than ever, we need to find more ways to conserve energy and reduce costs. So we’ve put together a series of tips on how to stay cool in the summer economically.

Our first tip covers why you should choose fans over AC!

Fans reduce your carbon footprint and energy consumption.

Using fans instead of AC is a great way to reduce energy consumption. In fact, fans only use about 1/10th of the energy of window AC units. The average fan draws 50 watts, while a small window AC unit (5000 BTU) draws about 500 watts.

Another benefit is that fans can help to get rid of lingering odours and be used anywhere where electricity is available. Whereas AC is limited depending on the type of building you live in.

Fans are less expensive to purchase and maintain

AC units can cost a lot of money to install and run. They will also break down at some point and can happen without warning.  When it does break, it will take time to find someone to fix it, and the cost can be expensive. In many cases, it can also lead to predatory payment plants and unnecessary fees.

Fans are highly customizable and portable.

Fans are highly customizable and come in many different styles, sizes, and colours — allowing you to find ones that match your home decor.

They’re also portable and take up significantly less space. For example, ceiling fans with low profiles take up almost no space while still keeping you cool.

Overall, even though AC provides more relief from heat and humidity, fans can still keep you quite comfortable. It also reduces your carbon footprint, energy consumption, and lowers many costs. Just remember to turn them off when you’re not in the room!
