What is Carbon 613?
Carbon 613 is our made-in-Ottawa, target-based sustainability program for businesses. We are partnered with Sustainability CoLab to support and build a network of local businesses setting and achieving sustainability success.
How does it work?
The program uses a membership model where member organizations are plugged in to a local network, supported in setting a target and celebrated for progress made towards economic and environmental results.
We offer targeted membership packages to meet the needs of a wide range of organizations.
Who can join?
Any public, private or non-profit organization with an office in the National Capital Region can become a member of Carbon 613. Additionally, property managers or landlords can sign up their building to join the program.
Tenants can also join Carbon 613 as well! There are still plenty of greenhouse gas reduction opportunities for renters. Whether you’re in a 15 floor office building or leasing a converted townhouse, we’ll help you find ways to make your business more sustainable.
Why should my organization join?
Becoming a member of Carbon 613 will position your business on the cutting edge of sustainability in the National Capital Region. By joining, your business will both acknowledge and take action on climate change, demonstrating that sustainability is in business’ best interest.
Will my organization be recognized for our efforts?
Yes. As a member of Carbon 613, your business will be revered as an environmental leader in the National Capital Region. We will celebrate your success and showcase your business by:
- Displaying your logo on our website;
- Recognizing your carbon reduction achievements in our Year End Report; and
- Celebrating your success stories at our Annual Evening of Recognition.
How does target-setting benefit a business?
The business case for sustainability is clear; reducing carbon emissions mitigates risk, saves businesses money while attracting and retaining employees, customers and clients.
For example, read Sustainable Waterloo Region’s comprehensive summary.
Target-setting has the following added benefits:
- Increases exposure for participants;
- Inspires faster progress toward the aspired goal;
- Provides focus for a business’ sustainability efforts.
How much does membership cost?
Joining Carbon 613 is a simple and a cost-effective way of evaluating your carbon footprint.
For the base membership fee of $550 (plus HST), your business can become a Carbon 613 member and be part of a growing local network of businesses in reducing carbon emissions.
