Cliff Antonakos
A graduate of the Sustainable Shelter Technology program at Assiniboine College in Brandon, Manitoba, Cliff has been working in the Green Building field for over 10 years. As a certified EnerGuide for Houses and ecoEnergy advisor he has completed more than 1,300 home energy evaluations to date. Cliff is also a ZeroDraft authorised installer, providing draft sealing and insulation upgrades to private homeowners, commercial, industrial and community facilities.
Greg Furlong
Greg has a B.A.Sc. (mechanical) from the University of Ottawa and a B. Mus. from the University of Toronto. He has worked in energy conservation and related fields since 1995. He co-owned a highly-rated retail business for 6 years, Bikes on Wheels Worker Coop in Toronto, which repaired and refurbished bicycles. Also in Toronto, he worked for Green$aver, installing home energy upgrades such as weatherstripping, airsealing and insulation and performing energy audits. In 2002, he taught bicycle mechanics in Havana, working with the CIDA-funded project Bicicletas Cruzando Fronteras. He has conducted several audits on large buildings for EnviroCentre, including three churches, and has been performing home energy audits since 2003.
Douglas Gordon
Doug has Certificate of Qualifications in the trades of Electrician Construction and Maintenance, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Systems Mechanic and Gas Fitter/Installer G2. Doug has also completed the HRAI course on Boiler and In- floor heating design and Installation as well as the OEL Heat Loss/Gain Calculations.
Doug has operated an Electrical Contracting business for fifteen years before taking over the family business in Refrigeration and Air Conditioning in 1980. Doug has over 30 years experience in all residential heating and cooling systems, duct design and ventilation systems design and Installation. The family business is a well respected contracting and design business serving the Cornwall and area for over fifty years.
Doug is now offering his clients his many years of Electrical/Mechanical knowledge and experience as a NRCan Certified Energy Advisor through his new company DK ECO ENERGY AUDITORS. Doug continues to keep himself upgraded on the latest technical advances in the heating and cooling business so that he can offer his clients the latest in energy efficiency technology.
Alan Leonard
Alan has extensive experience building, renovating and weatherizing houses having worked in construction since 1977. He has worked on everything from 150+ year old homes to new solar houses. Alan owned his own construction and renovation company for many years and has knowledge and skill in many trades. Beyond his hands on experience with houses he has extensive education and self study in building science and construction. Some of his technical training and certifications are: Home Inspection Certificate, Algonquin College. H.R.A.I. Certifications in Ventilation Design and Installation, Air System Design, Heat Loss/Gain Calculations and Integrated Combo Systems. Home Energy Rater Certificate, K.B.S.I. Solid Fuel-Code Compliance and Inspection courses, W.E.T.T. R-2000 Builders course, Enerquality Corp. Defect Recognition and Reporting course, O.A.H.I. He has lived off-grid for over a decade, producing much of his own energy from solar power and his woodlot.
Franklin Menendez
Franklin has been in the construction business for many years, specializing in quality finishing and attention to detail. He has worked primarily on old downtown homes but has seen inside the cavities of practically every type of house in the city. After 20 years he decided to take his expertise and social conscience and sore back into the energy efficiency field. His renovation experience gives him a valuable insight into the problems affecting Ottawa's housing stock. Scott Meyer
Scott Meyer is a certified energy advisor who has performed over 1400 home energy evaluations through the Energuide for Houses and ecoEnergy programs. He is a graduate of the Environment and Resource Studies program at the University of Waterloo and has been involved with the construction and renovation trades for more than a decade. He has a long-time interest in energy conservation and green building technologies and is looking forward to the continued growth of these related industries. Scott has recently established Ecowise Consulting, a company dedicated to comprehensive and customer-service oriented energy audits throughout the Ottawa region.
Brad Richardson
Brad has many years of experience in commercial and residential construction in a variety of trades. During that time he developed a strong working knowledge of building standards and practices used today, including new building systems like ICF homes. Brad is an NRCan Certified Energy Advisor and has completed 600 home energy evaluations to date. His renovation background has helped him identify building envelope defects when evaluating homes through the ecoEnergy Retrofit Program.
Derrick Vander Meer
Electrical Power Engineering Technologist, St. Lawrence College Brockville ON, 1973; certified EnerGuide for houses auditor, 2003 Provincial License, Construction and Maintenance Electrician, 1978; certified Heating and Cooling Analysis by Ontario Electric League, 1988; Ontario Hydro (1973 - 2003) energy efficient heating systems.
Tim Vander Meer
Tim graduated from Algonquin College in 2003 as an electical engineering technician. Tim then spent the next five years working with Energy Ottawa to help reduce the electrical consumption of large commercial and recreational facilities in the Ottawa area. Tim's handywork can be seen in multiple sports arena's, swimming facilities and office towers in the form of the overhead lighting. Tim's interest in the housing construction and trades as well as energy efficiency made home energy auditing a natural move.
Peter Whitred
Peter graduated from McMaster University in 2003 with a Bachelor of Engineering & Management. He worked for a few years as a project manager for a multi-national contracting company before getting into kitchen and bathroom renovations. However, due to his interest in all things green, and energy conservation in particular, he decided to bring his mechanical engineering and renovation backgrounds into the energy auditing field.
Kevin Martin
Kevin graduated from Fanshawe College with a photography degree in 1997 but spent many years building and renovating homes in his area and is also a partner in a landscaping and excavation business. He was very excited to be a certified energy advisor and puts both his knowledge and his passion to good use. Living in the Ottawa Valley and as a volunteer firefighter, Kevin is committed to improving his community and sees this as another way to do so.
Stephen Ferland
A graduate of Pavilion Professional’s Construction and Maintenance Electrical program, as an Electrician Stephen worked primarily on new residential construction. His technical training and certifications include: Home Inspection Certificate from Algonquin college. O.B.C-Building Envelope, O.B.C.-Health & Safety, Plumbing Systems, Home Heating Systems, Carpentry Framing, Septic systems, Asbestos Awareness. Doug Potts
Doug has been working in the home construction, renovation and maintenance business for private homeowners and MURBs since 1985. He graduated from the Algonquin College Home Inspector program with honours, and has since added Radon inspection and measurement to his expertise.
Rolf Floeren
Rolf’s background has provided him with a solid understanding of engineering principles and the fundamentals of house design/construction. His education includes the Mechanical Engineering Technology program and the Home Inspectors Certificate from Algonquin College. His work experience has included apprenticeships in Germany as a Tool and Die maker. He has a strong belief in the importance of protecting our environment and the need to encourage household sustainable behaviors.
Steven Wright
Born and raised in Ottawa, Steve graduated from Carleton University and spent 28 years working for Bell Canada before retiring in 2008. His love of building cottages and houses motivated him to return to school, where he graduated with a Certificate in Home Inspection services. Steve’s interest in environmental issues and strong belief in the benefits and goals of the ecoEnergy Homes – Retrofit Program lead him to become a Certified Energy auditor for Natural Resources Canada. His company, Cozy Homes Energy Audits Inc., provides service to Ottawa and the surrounding area.
