upgrading programs in Canada. We pay them to spend more time with you and limit
the number of files they do per month. View their profiles.
For the best advice in town on how to make your home more energy efficient and healthier
to live in, book online today because this program is currently scheduled to end
in March 2011.
If you're building a new home, you are unfortunately not eligible for any grants
to make it more energy-efficient, but EnviroCentre does offer a
New Home Service that will help you improve its design and performance.
If your home or building is composed of apartments with their own entrances, you
must apply under the Multi Unit or MURB program.
Homes larger than 2,400 sf (not including unheated basements) are subject to an
extra fee of $25 for each 500 sf of additional space. The follow-up evaluation costs
$150 unless you have made an addition to the house and it needs to be re-modelled
($200 extra). Finally, we do offer weekend and some evening appointments for $25
extra.
We are now able to offer free travel to clients from Cornwall to Brockville, Kemptville,
Perth, Smiths Falls, Lanark, Renfrew, Arnprior and Pembroke. Please select an appointment
with the advisor closest to you. If you book with another advisor to receive an
earlier appointment or for any other reason, please note that travel charges will
apply.
- Pembroke, Renfrew, Arnprior: Kevin Martin
- Cornwall to Brockville: Doug Gordon
- Kemptville, Perth, Smiths Falls: Tim VanderMeer
- Lanark: Alan Leonard
It Pays To Be Green
will show you the amount your planned upgrades will be eligible. These are the combined
provincial and federal grant amounts.
In order to receive the rebates you must have an evaluation performed prior to any
work you do. If you're thinking about replacing your heating system, simply want
to reduce your energy bills, or can't stay comfortable in your own home,
book online before doing any renovations. Please note that because this
program is designed to incent people to invest in energy efficiency, it does not
reward people for having already done the right thing
Infrared thermography is the easiest and quickest method to detect
energy waste, moisture and electrical issues in buildings because it shows exactly
where the problems are. The depressurization test that is included with an ecoEnergy
evaluation quantifies air leakage but doesn’t show it as well as the camera. If
you’re interested in upgrading to this level for $100 extra, you will be booked
with one of our advisors who has completed the training course and will spend up
to 30 minutes showing you revealing pictures of your house when temperature differentials
allow (works great in the winter and the summer if you have AC but it won’t work
when the indoor and outdoor temperatures are similar).
If you are concerned about Indoor Air Quality (IAQ), including mould and radon,
check out CMHC’s
Breathe Cleaner Air in Your Home brochure. Most IAQ problems are caused
by poor insulation, poor vapour barriers, and poor building materials or furnishings.
In many cases, better mechanical ventilation, if not a Heat Recovery Ventilator,
will solve the problem once you eliminate or reduce the cause. If you’re willing
to pay for a report confirming your IAQ problems, you can get the names of private
consultants who have completed the CMHC Residential IAQ Investigator Training Program
by calling 1-800-668-2642.
ecoENERGY Update
For the second time since it was elected, the current federal government has suspended its own energy retrofit grants program, giving delivery agents like EnviroCentre 24 hours notice to deal with thousands of new audits already booked.
The good news is that the Province of Ontario is continuing to provide grants of up to $5,000 plus the $150 rebate on the cost of the first audit. People who have already had an audit as well as those who have already booked the first audit, will still be eligible for grants if they upgrade their house and get a second audit before March 2011.
The current federal government announced an additional $80 million in the latest budget to complement the $90 million that has already been invested in cost-effective, energy-efficiency upgrades that have generated good jobs in every community across Canada. The total investment of $170 million pales in comparison to the billions of being spent on outdated, capital-intensive, fossil fuel megaprojects.
